Do you still get a Christmas bonus?

No, my company doesn’t do bonuses.

Did you at least get a holiday party?

They fed us lunch one day this week and gave me a frozen turkey.

I didn’t have bonuses across 4 employers and 12+ years. Then suddenly I had an employer who does them. It’s a weird psychological entitlement and actually keeps you on your toes when you are counting on it, like Clark Griswold.
Fundamentally, I hate the idea. I don’t want to sweat whether I’ll make ends meet until March (when bonuses are paid) then watch my funds slowly dwindle for the next 11 months . I’d much rather have that be part of my salary. They’re actually trying to transition to this now, since everyone realized bonuses for most employees are not based on specific performance, they’re just a given.

It would be nice to just get a little something, I’d rather have it in my salary then at one time, but usually it seems like it’s a little something extra.
I miss the bonuses from my days in oil.

The company I started with this year is the first one that’ll give a significant bonus. I feel ya, I would rather have it all year, but... my salary is a few % higher than the last company, and the last company didn’t really do bonsuses... so to me, it really is a “bonus”

It’s awesome if you can get a bonus and actually treat it as a bonus instead of a necessity :)

I’m hoping that’ll be the case. It’ll come in about 2 months after my firstborn, so it’s pretty much already spent anyway.... Funny how that happens

First, I want to say “Congrats and welcome to the club” with genuine emotion, then I will say “Congrats and welcome to the club” with commiserating sarcasm. :)

I don’t budget bonuses, tax returns, or the extra check every few months. By that, I mean I budget getting paid 2x a month, so two months out of the year I get a “bonus check”. All of those go directly into either investing or saving. I plan monthly instead of an estimated “monthly” income base on year salary. By doing that, I budget under what I’m really making , I never worry about what my return or bonus will be, and those given extra paycheck months make my account happy!
